From June 21-June 23, the gardens of private houses along the canal (usually closed to the public) open up for the weekend. Classically designed and modern gardens, stately old trees and rare plants lie hidden behind the imposing of the 17th- and 18th-century merchants' houses, along the city's three main canals: the Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht. All participating gardens are within walking distance and are clearly marked by a blue sign. Each will provide a map of the full garden tour. Some of the houses and gardens sell antiques, garden ornaments and furniture, and there will be many outdoor concerts and cultural events. Admission: EUR10 (tickets may only be purchased at participants' homes, between 10am-5pm).
