De Molen van Sloten (the windmill from Sloten) dates from 1947 and pumps the water from the wetlands of Amsterdam-West into the canals. This is done with a very big windmill - wheel. At the top of the mill you can watch a sequence about Rembrandt's life and the inspiration for his paintings. Rembrandt was the son of a windmill keeper, and you can see a wax statue of his mother in the windmill. If you climb the steep wooden stairs, you'll see the wheel running, hear the wind and feel like a mill keeper for a moment.
