On May 5th the Dutch remember those who died during World War II The Queen and the Prime Minister lay a wreath at the National Monument on Dam Square and two minutes of silence are held at 8pm On May 5 the day the Germans surrendered called Bevrijdingsdag Liberation Day the Dutch celebrate the war's end throughout the city On Dam Square a free concert Liberation Pop is held featuring famous Dutch artists who then travel from town to town and from stage to stage by helicopter
