Thirty-four kilometres of archives is what you will find in the Gemeentearchief. Besides government archives, there are also private company archives which have played an important role in the development of Amsterdam - the Artis or the Concert Hall for example. You'll see Amsterdam just as your predecessors saw it: over 700,000 photos, prints and drawings are kept here. The Gemeentearchief is quite simply Amsterdam's memory. A treasury of documented and photographic events makes a trip into Amsterdam's past extremely interesting.
