On May 5, the day the Germans surrendered, called Bevrijdingsdag (Liberation Day), the Dutch celebrate the war's end throughout the city. On Dam Square, a free concert ("Liberation Pop") is held, featuring famous Dutch artists who then travel from town to town and from stage to stage by helicopter.
