In the global scheme of polar bear swims, this traditional New Year's Day at the beach probably isn't among the most rigorous. Still, though the North Sea might not be frozen solid, rest assured that it is very, very cold; and in the spirit of the event you will be bathing without the benefit of trunks. This all takes place on The Hague's magnificent Scheveningen beach (45 minutes by train from Amsterdam), which is well-known for its summertime fun. Admission to the Dive, needlessly to say, is free.
