Puri Mas stands for Golden Temple and the restaurant tries to uphold this idea in terms of service and hospitality. Its central location, near the Leidseplein, makes it popular with tourists. This is a comfortable restaurant, designed in a U-shape around a staircase. Its modern interior is tastefully decorated with original Indonesian handcrafts and paintings. The staff dress in typically Batik costumes, and Indonesian music completes the atmosphere. All this, combined with the friendly service, adds to a congenial ambience. The restaurant is famous for its Rijsttafel - a feast of mild to strongly spiced Indonesian dishes. Rijsttafel means Rice Table - an array of many dishes in small portions that cover the whole table. Although it is a Dutch idea, its origins are clearly Indonesian and it was known at one time as Makan Besar.
